Show Notes

Vanessa Mulvey is a performer and educator. Ms. Mulvey's teachings integrate a whole body approach through principles of Body Mapping, which brings the musicians’ attention and awareness to the body and the various connections that affect our musicianship. Ms. Mulvey is on the faculty of New England Conservatory in Boston and is a certified Andover educator, who has presented to various venues and schools around the world, including Harvard University, British Isles Music Festival, and National Association for Music Education Conferences. As a performer, Ms. Mulvey has been a featured performer on concert series throughout the New England area, including Wolfeboro Friends of Music, Chromatic Club, King’s Chapel Concert Series, Longy Septemberfest, and on WGBH radio.

The question for the week is, "Should understanding the body be a priority in music education?" Together, Ms. Mulvey and I discuss how everything in our body is connected, how modernity encourages us not to use or understand our bodies, the disconnect between good and bad performances, and how all music performance revolves around movement.
